12v Motor

im interested in this motor for a little project ive got in mind. Can this be controlled to give variable speed ? And if so what would I need

parm take into account your torq rating if your up something that needs some torq or alot of torq

i went down the baldor motors route due to its torq ratings however i have some bed motors instead

but what are your making ?

this is the type i have motor already has a screw thread on it already as it pushes a plastic block forward

That's a bit expensive that motor. I'm planning to make spit turnip assy.

Will the controller linked above work with a windscreen wiper motor?

no its 3 amp if the motor stalls for any reason the feedback amps would blow it

you might be better off with something like this used on barbeques

those motors inside of what ive posted are 12v with a worm gear attached to them as ive got a few of them

That's more like it, looks proper heavy duty. Can it be controlled with the controller linked above ?

You can use a standard model controller using a Mofset and you can mount it in a casing and switch the servo operation to a rotary dial and have forward and reverse with variable speeds.

If its a dc motor then a big eniugh power supply and a rheostat will be enough to give a bobby basic speed controller.
A better way would be a pulse width signal into a transistor of some descriptoin rated to the motor.
You can go all the wwy with an h bridge controlled by a raspbery pi but thars probably over kill.
Using a pw signal means that the pulses are 12v whereas a resistive controller will just reduse the voltage
You can change the frequency too to suit the application if you make your own controller. The torque will be related but i cant remember off hand while writing this.

If you get a chinesium one from ebay just make sure its rated better than the motor
E.g. a 3A 12v controller wont like a 50W 12v motor and will let the magic smoke out.
Window wiper motors are quite powerful so youll probably want a 10A controller. nbut youll need to check. Also you need to work out if the motor has enough torque for the application. A chain driver mechanism would be my thoughts on a spit. This will allow the motor to be placed away from the heat. Then a small sprocket on the motor and a large one on the spit shaft. If a small dc motor isnt spinning fast enough it wont give enough torque.
Apart from windsreen wiper motors electric door motors are quite good too. Ones designed for koeel cars and. Boats aee probably too high an rpm for your needs

The alternative is a 3ph motor and a vfd
