125mig nothern industrial

Hey every one got new mig welder nothern idustrial 125 80 amp. The problem i have is i plug it in to my 120 wall outlet and it turns on wire come out but i get no arch has copper ground clamp, metal is clean this is a( flux core unit) i put in a new 2 pound licon flux core wire still no arch on connect the fan turns on but i dont here the transfomer ingage i know my licon makes a good humming noise when it on. I dont here that from this small unit dont know if that means anything? The unit does have a fuse check it its good, it doez have thermal protection but the light doesnt come on indicating a problem? The only
thing i can think of is that i need to connect to a stoger wall outlet i read in a nothern forum that the wall power source needs to put out 125volts my outlets are 20 amps 120v. Dont know if this can cause it not to arch? The manul say it for a 120v outlet ,need help never had this probelm before new unit thanks!!

I would try another outlet or drag it to the neighbors house and try theirs...Bob

yeah I know I have a friend that has a 30 amp breaker in his house and a 25 amp might try that. I guess that what am wondering if low current can cause my might welder systoms?

Sounds like it is typical Chinese quality

You might open it up and see if any wires have pulled loose in transport.

Another supply won't make a difference. If there was not enough, you would trip the breaker.

Ok , I guess that what I wanted to know I was think if it didn't have enough juice it would trip my breaker. Guess I will find out, will be very disappointed if it is a crap box expected more from a Northern.

Northern tools used to be good. Problem is Harbor freight is selling their Chinese junk real cheap. Now Northern carries some of the same stuff.

It has to be a loose connection somewhere in the return lead or torch as the wire feed is usually powered off the welding voltage.

As I am in the UK I have no idea who Northern Industrial are or how goods are guaranteed in the US. If it was the UK and you have just bought a faulty item the only sensible thing to do would be take it back and get an exchange or refund, do it now because they will not be interested in fixing the problem if you have taken it apart yourself.

It works, looks like it was a loose ground wire to the transformer. Not happy guess it got loose during transport. But what ever it works know and am happy. Got this little welder for the portabilty, for little project. Doesn't compare to my Lincoln but still a good little welder for the price. THANKS EVERY ONE FOR THE HELP.
