12 volt battery isolator

Hi

I am thinking about fit a isolator switch. They say on the packet 200amp, 500amp and for so many seconds.

Is that to do with the size of battery? and how long it could be cranking those amp''i t's for a wee v8 land.

Hi, Current is drawn so the highest draw through the isolator will be the starter motor, in the worst of conditions it's likely to be 250A initial draw tailing off to 100 to 150A. So a 200A isolator will be OK because it won't see a sustained draw.

I had one on my kitcar in the door pillar aeria it served 2 purposes a in case of wiring fire and take the key out and no one could start it as the battery was behind the seat

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for all the advice. The switch is obviously for safety but it is mainly so I can isolate the power when I am out or at night.

you can get ones that fit on the battery +they are basically a thumb nut that tighten the battery lead down onto the connector but only requires a small movement to disconnect you dont remove the lead and it looks like it is still connected

no external fitting just replace the connector

I have stopped using isolator`s that take the red plastic keys, far to common and keys are easy to come by posing no problems foe a tealeaf . Have been fitting the tractor/plant versions which have the steel key, they also cope with bigger amps and last a lot longer. Very little in it price wise either.
