12,000v through wood

I have a little gadget I use on my wood turnings, it puts 12,000v between the probes and produces Lichtenberg style patterns, fascinating to watch them grow, but obviously requires care in use.

I didn't go the home made route as they seemed too dangerous so got mine from the U S of A.

More than a few people have fried themselves to death using this technique, lots of vids on you tube with home made lash ups made from microwave transformers etc. High voltage & amps takes no prisoners when it goes wrong.

The very reason I went down the commercial route, now don't get me wrong 12,000v is not to be messed with but at least the electronics, probes and leads are to a professional standard, and laid out so difficult to get wrong - but not impossible.

It's not difficult to limit the current, which is what does the damage.

Tragic story I read about this a while ago. Poor bloke was electrocuted - then fell onto an electric fire. wife found him - not nice!

Yeah, but it's not that cheap Seadog, I intent to use it on wooden scratchplates for my steel guitars.

I have a piece of what I think is Yew that someone burned in the Lichtenberg style then filled it with luminous paint (I think it's Superluminova that Seiko use on their dive watches) !, After being charged with strong light, It shines like crazy!

How it looks without charge..
