110v transformer...does size matter.

I have a smaller type 110v transformer...I only use it with a 4in grinder which is ok with it.

But I was given a big 10in grinder think it 1200w without looking...its not very old but I know nothing of it.

But it doesn't have a lot of grunt when plugged into my small transformer...I was trying to cut some paving slabs with it and it I put any weight on it it would slow right down...in the end I had to do the cutting with my 4in grinder.

I am wondering if my transformer is not man enough for it...I know nothing about 110v gear.

Does there output vary with size.

yes I have a 750w one and also as 1.5kw one they generally have a cut-out button on them if u overload them and trip out

That 9" grinder might be rated at 1200w but it'll pull a lot of amps if you horse it. If you try running it off that little box it'll cook the box, possibly the grinder brushes too.

Check it is a 110 grinder not a 240 that has had a 110 plug fitted !

going to say last 9" i bought is 2200, it dosent go much on the dinky 110v box's it goes alright on the 3kva box but you can still tell if its plugged in the genny or 5kw box especaly if someelse is useing something

Sorry guys your right its a 2100w machine.

So its possible my transformer is to small...its the yellow plastic type you see builders use...looks the same as this one on ebay...mine has no output stickers on it.

But it does have a red poss cut out button.

Sounds like the transformer is under rated... if you are going to buy a bigger one, just buy a 3.3kva.... next size up is much bigger and more expensive.
