110v saw supply

Hi, guys. I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help. I've recently bought a Milwaukee chs335 saw. It's a 110 volt and before I purchased it I checked with the supplier that a 3.3kva transformer will be sufficient and was told it would be. But when it arrived it was fitted with a 32 amp plug and alas my transformer has 2 16 amp sockets. Could I do away with the two 16 amp sockets and replace it with one 32 amp socket? From what I can gather the saw is rated at 17.5 amps.

Hello Dave,

personally I would in your circumstance. Strictly speaking a 3.3KVA will only give 30 amps so it shouldn't be done. Depending on how hard you expect to work the saw, it would be easier to fit a 16A plug on it, as it's rated current is at full load?

Hi, cheers for your reply. Was it supposed to say "I wouldn't do it" or that you would it's just it'll be easier to change the plug? I wouldn't expect it to get a huge amount if use it's just when it does I'd like to be able to rely on it if you get what I mean.

id just fit a 16A plug on it and not wory about it. 9inch grinders often come with 32A plugs on. i changed mine about 7 years ago and has had some serious stick and never been an issue

As the lads above, put a 16a plug on it. Grinders, big drills, anything over about 1750w should be on a 32a plug- but it doesn't very often happen.
If we are running on a massive long extensions sometimes we run with 32a leads and supply, and have an adaptor 32a plug, 16a socket.
