100EN help

Hi All

My 100EN has stopped welding, the wire just glows like a lightbulb filament when I pull the trigger on the torch. I've already replaced the rectifier diode but still no joy.
After having the whole thing checked over by MM tech's they advised that I need a new PCB and a wire feed, but they want to charge me £85 to replace the parts. After paying for the rectifier diode and to have the whole welder checked out, I can't afford it.
I was wondering if anyone might have these parts kicking about as spares that I could maybe buy if they weren't needed.

Does the wire feed out when you press the trigger without attempting a weld? If so, does the speed control work OK? Do you get the same symptoms on all the power settings?

Sounds like a bad connection.

Did they replace one diode or all of them? Usually there are 4 to 12 on a set of aluminum plates.

If it feeds, the PCB is fine.

Yes, the wire feeds out ok when I press the trigger, the speed control works as well. Yes, same symptoms on all power settings.

I replaced the rectifier diode and there's only one diode sitting between the two plates.

hmmm, the rectifier that I took off only had one diode and the one that I replaced has one diode. The replacement came from MM after quoting the model number and serial number to make sure it was the correct one

i would be looking at all the connections from the earth clamp to the transformer and the same with the torch
also dont be fooled by a strong physical connection they can be as strong as an ox but have little or no conductivity i had on the same where the eath lead connected to the transformer.
if you have a multimeter set it to dc and test the voltage between the torch and earth clamp with the trigger pressed and repeat for each power setting

Post some pics of the rectifier assembly. There should be at least 2 diodes and 3 wires from the transformer according to the manual..

Must be some misunderstanding. There are 4 diodes in the pictures.

he must be thinking the capacitor is the diode

I might well be wrong in what I was thinking of as the rectifier diode, all I did was describe the problem and MM advised that I needed to replace the rectifier diode, they sent me the part and I fitted it

as you have replaced the rectifier and you get the exact same symptoms no matter what setting i still say its a bad connection from the welding transformer output go through them take them apart clean them and re connect

Yes, those connections look all corroded. Lots of rust inside. I'd clean those connections.

Could be a break in the main transformer.

Really, you will need a meter to test further.
