1/8" plate

I need to fabricate a seatbelt anchorage point to weld onto/extend one already on my moggie van project.
As 1/8" converts to 3.17mm woul you just use 3mm and if so is there such a size as 3mm or is imperial 1/8" still available?

3mm is a regular thickness, yes. Available if flat bars, sheets...

The metric equivalents seem to be adequate for most purposes. If you wanted to go to the nearest step up, your in luck, 4mm is also a regular thickness.
