0.6mm wire - ok for 2.5mm box section?

I've just bought a rollover spit in kit form that i am going to weld up using my new 215 portamig, i have 0.6mm wire at the moment as I've den doing some car panel stuff on thin sheet.


Will i be ok with 0.6mm wire on the 2.5mm box (I've bought some extra pieces to practice on before i ruin the rotisserie) or should i just get some 0.8mm wire too.

Should work but expect to crank the wire speed way up.

id get some bigger wire. Your wire should be ok but i would prefer to use 0.8

i might whip over to BOC on friday then, i guess ill use it, I'm hoping once more skilled to fit my roll cage too, part of the reason for buying the rollover as a kit so i can almost practice on that (after practicing before doing that if you get my meaning) i see it that if the welds are good and strong and look ok AND hold the car on the spit the cage is the next project

no its going to be functional, therefore I'm going nowhere near it until i am confident of every weld

I'd use 0.8mm wire - I've welded 2.5mm box with 0.6 and it goes thro wire real fast - just seemed daft to use lots of wire that's better suited to body work (although I'm finding that more and more I prefer using 0.8mm for bodywork so I'm probably never going to need to buy any more 0.6mm)

should be when its done, will take a while though as i dont get huge amounts of time to do it. No decent pics yet as its basically a bare shell still, I'm having some wide rallye arches built at the moment so its even more of a mess
