0.6 to 0.8 wire

Hi i currently have a small Clarke 90 MIG welder that uses 0.6 wire but i have been given two 5kg reels of 0.8 wire, can anyone tell me whats needed to be changed on the welder to take the lager wire? or wouldnt it be a good idea to use the larger wire on a small welder?

tip needs changing and the feed motor roller needs swapping over

There are two grooves on the feed roller, on my Clarke they were labelled, check which way round it asn swap if needed, as madkayaker says remember to change the tip or it will probably jam. You may need to play about with the wire speed a bit to get thngs working well.

If you have used the welder much, now's a good time to blow through the liner while you are changing wire over...it will remove any dust and debris etc...use an airline and take care with your eyes.

Tips & rollers will need changing. Also as chunkolini said you may need to fiddle with the wire speed and obviously up the power on the set. Other than that you should be fine.

Hi there ok am new to this but switched on, After taking a look at replacing wire thats easy, problem is with the existing wire inside the liner & torch could you give a tip on removel & surely you don't have to strip the whole lot down to do so.

Th easy way is just to snip the wire at the wire feed and then pull it through the torch with some pliers.

If you desperately want to save all the wire then i suppose you could release the tension on the wire feed and re wind it back onto the reel manually?

I tend to cut the blob from the end of the wire at the torch end, lift the top roller off the wire feeder, then wind the whole lot back through the liner on to the spool.

Is yours jammed inside the wire liner DIY MAN?

That would work, only thing that may happen after winding back on is some uneven exit of the wire from the torch meaning some uneven tip wear but not going to make a huge difference.

Don't forget if you snip it down at the spool end to hold on tight to the wire going to the spool, it unravels at a prestigious rate
