0.6 or 0.8mm wire

going to be doing some body work and 3-4mm box section


if i can get away with it id like to use one size for what i need to be welding, so…

Is that possible to use one size for body work and 3-4mm box section

and

if so what would be the better size to use

going on the advice given ill be using a portamig 215 and 5% argon mix gas.


also whats a decent brand to use, weld equip seem to be out of stock of the 5kg reels

One size will do all that.
For years I only used 0.6mm, than bought a welder with a reel of 0.8mm and have only used that since.
My work ranges from stupid delicate stuff to some quite heavy work.
Take your pick. If mostly body work maybe 0.6mm.

box section will be a once only thing that i can see then i need to replace a tunnel in a car and some other bits, including seam welding a car so 0.6mm it is i guess.

any decent suppliers?

I use both, most bodywork is impossible with 0.8 and when you start working with thicker stuff you really need 0.8 or the wirespeed ends up ridiculous. Weldequip (look up the top of the page) do good quality wire for a reasonable price

As you will probably have to wait 4-6 weeks for your Portamig, he will probably have some stock by then?
