0-24VDC motor speed controller that accepts 0-10V control, but low current

I know there are a few electronic types around here, but I've so far drawn a blank on something suitable.

I'm needing something to control a 24VDC spindle, that only needs around 1A of current, and is controlled via a 0-10V analogue signal.

Does anybody have any suggestions?
I'd ideally like something pre-made, but I'm not opposed to making something from a suitable schematic.

I could go for basic on/off, but the machine originally had variable speed control, so I'd like to keep the functionality.

That's a bit overkill for what is about a 20-30W motor.
I'm sure there is probably something suitable in the hobby/robotics world, but I've not found anything in my searching so far.

There's plenty of things like this which take a PWM input, you could buy a basic Arduino or Nucleo board that you make a voltage divider on an analogue pin and that dictates the PWM output driving the driver.

Peter Homann (https://www.homanndesigns.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=54_1) did the Digispeed controller. It outputs a 0-10v analogue signal.

What you do not say in your post is how you will tell whatever you buy what voltage it should be outputting. The Digispeed I have takes a PWM signal from Mach3.

The 1A and the 24v is a bit irrelevant in this context as you are supplying the control signal not the power signal. You could use a Digispeed on a 10kW VFD so long as it uses 0-10v analogue as a control signal.

Look at the Arduino world. Somewhere there someone will have a board for 0-5v input (from the microcontroller) variable potentiometer that you can use as a voltage divider.

Thanks for the input guys, however I remembered I got given the manual for the machine (I've had the machine for a few years, but got given the manual a while after the machine), and it turns out the spindle speed is purely set using the on machine dial.
I had been under the impression the speed was settable via the software, but having read the manual, the controller simply turns it on/off in combination with an on machine button.
I need to reverse engineer the spindle control board, as it does provide feedback to the controller about whether the motor button is on/off, but from the basic notes I made from when I last looked at it, it only receives a 24V, Gnd, and an additional wire that measured at 5V.

I do have the original control box, however the software for it requires Windows XP, and I really can't be bothered finding a relic PC, so I'm planning on fitting a DDCS standalone controller, a 24VDC PSU, along with a few basic stepper drivers.

Would something like the speed controller for a mini-drill (e.g Dremmel) do it? The are mostly pulse-width, but you can also get them which are load sensing (so maintain near constant speed irrespective of load) As above, Velleman (and Quasar) do good kits of various kinds.

I've got a little maxon motor with speed controller on a machine here that I'm sure takes that sort of input, so off-the-shelf is certainly available for less simple motors.

At the moment, I don't think I need anything.
I've had this for a few years, and although I partially stripped it to figure things out when I received it, I was under the impression that the speed control was done via the control box, but having finally read the manual it appears all the speed control is done on the machine.
My plan is to create an entirely new control box that will simply plug in, so I don't have to modify anything on the machine, but I had wrongly thought that I needed a new spindle speed controller.

I think I need to spend a couple hours and reverse engineer the speed control PCB on the machine, to figure out what it needs.

It's a pretty standard brushed DC motor from what I can tell. There are three wires going to it, so I suspect it might have a thermal cut-out built in, but I've not dug into it enough yet.

I'm sure something will exist, but the 0-10V (or 0-5V) input is probably not that common.
As has been mentioned, PWM is probably far more common, so if I do go down this road, I may have to look at some kind of interface/conversion stage that takes the 0-10V and converts it to PWM.

You'll almost certainly be able to find a speed controller with a rotary pot on it. Desolder it and work out the equivalent resistor values to convert the 0 to 10V signal to the wiper on the pot.

I had a better look at this tonight, as I hadn't really looked at it for a while, and realised a couple things.
The spindle on/off button is on the control box (I thought it was on the machine :/ ), and the on machine speed control is simply fed 24VDC when the spindle is required.
So realistically, I could bypass the existing speed control board, then have spindle speed control via my new control box.

I'm not really wanting to change the actual engraver itself, as it's all a bit compact to start chopping and changing things, but bypassing the speed control board would be a fairly trivial thing.
I think for now, I'll work on just getting it running with a basic 24V on/off, then see if I can be bothered making the speed control automatic later.


Now I just need to figure out what current the Z-axis pancake stepper motor needs, as the labelling (6V / 30ohm) would imply it only needs ~200mA, and there are zero hits for the model number :/
Once I figure that out, I can decide what stepper drivers to use, and design a suitable new control box.

If it's 0-10v to the controller use a potentiometer. These are cheap convertor boards also if it needs pwm
