1kW fiber laser.
About 30kg. I may add some holes to reduce the weight a bit. 2mm would probably have been fine, but I only have a 3mm sheet in stock. Estiimated cut time is 10 minutes.
I need a cart for my TIG welder and I thought I'd have a go at cutting one on the laser from 3mm steel. Hopefully the slots/tabs should make it easy to put together.
It's a shame I'm not nearer you. I've just got my 1kW fiber laser up and running. It will cut 10mm mild steel and 5mm stainless. I normally work with dxf files. It's a vector format and all laser software that I know of will scale it.
Hi All,
Last week I finally had the technician from China stop by to install my new fiber laser. One of the first jobs was this coat rack, a request from my wife. Need to get the welder up and running so I can assemble it.
I have a regular supply of expired steel fire extinguishers. It's not worthwhile returning then to Denmark for a refill so they just get scrapped. I have a friend in the fire dept. so I get a bunch from time to time.
I plan to cut some of them in half and use the bottom half for crucibles to...
Out here in the middle of the North Atlantic it is not easy to get at hold of blasting media. Importing it would cost a fortune. It sounds like glass can be used. How fine would I need to crush it?
Sorry, got this posted in the wrong forum to begin with.
I'm going to buy a fiber laser cutter in the not too distant future. It will be in the 500-750W range. Does anyone here have any experience running fiber lasers?
I've already got two CO2 lasers, a 80W and a 110W that will cut wood and...
Thanks guys. Sadly the freighter does not want to carry bottles :(
Pretty bummed out about it as I have a shiny new TIG and loads of stainless steel but I can't afford to pay the high cost of gas here. It's so expensive you'd think it was mixed with gold dust.
If I was a man of means I'd set up as a distributor and give the existing suppliers a run for their money. Alas I can't afford to order a container load of gas.
Many things are silly expensive up here. Butane is nearly twice what I paid in the UK. Nearly all imports come from Denmark which...
Thanks for the suggestions. There are only a two freight routes from the UK to the Faroes. The one from Scrabster will not carry any dangereous goods (I suspect it's due to "can't be arsed"). The other route is out of Immingham but so much more expensive to use. Basically I would have to fill a...
I have mixed feelings about this place but my wife is local and wanted to move here. It is a very expensive place to live and there is a lot of bureaucracy for such a small place, basically because the politicians try to mimic how things are done in Denmark. If you don't speak Faroese or Danish...
When I forgot to change my location
I'm now on the Faroe Islands. Anyway just received a response from the freight ship that they will NOT carry welding gas so that's my plans down the drain. With the cost of gas here I can't afford to do any welding so might as well see if I can...
Is it possible to buy 20L cylinders or are they only available on a deposit/return basis. I'm still trying to find a cheaper alternative to buying argon locally. Up here it is £211 to buy an empty 10L bottle (you have to buy it) and to fill it is £179. Since UK prices are so much lower even with...
Earlier this year I moved to the Faroe Islands. When I enquired about gas prices recently I got something of a shock. £390 for a 10L bottle of Argon (I have to buy the bottle). £179 to re-fill it.
Even with the added cost of shipping I can probably do it cheaper by importing from the UK (and...
