contactor was ordered today so it will arrive tomoz then dig her out and bring her back to life!
I may also take out the control board and give it a go over with the soldering iron check for any dry joints...

Would a coil voltage of 35va sound about right? is there any one else that has this set that could have a look inside and get a part number or any info off the contactor?

Thanks for the response I've turned the mig set on without the torch on and it still does the same. But I have not checked the relay Witch I will do tomorrow.
When it does happen it seems to be verry rappid on off on off then it will stay on, really anoying!

been at the g/f's for the weekend so not been able to do much, will be getting back to it tomorrow, making the vents and removable ash pan and grate
Im thinking of using the black paint on stove paint as i think you get a far better finish!
Another update! Cut the door out and welded the hinges onto the bottle and door, decided to go for a removable ash pan rather than have a door at the bottom , Will be making vents from some scaffold tube and have a scew in type valve so can adjust the air flow.

Hey there BOb i would recommend that you join up with the TWI if your going to college studying welding an fab, you will get a student membership for free witch will give you access to lots of info and help! you will also be invited to a few semiars (i been to a few)
I would seek advice...
sounds like you just need an independant asseser to see your work and what your knowledge is on that type of welding and then pay a fair amount for the cert if you meet the criteria
Have you looked at the TWI website? there is lots of info on there, you could even ring up for guidance
