When you strike try keep the rod under about 2inch to maintain the arc this alows to just touch then weld. also try starting of on a high setting as is much easyer to strike. also a few rubs on the clamp to get it going :]

you need to do the wire feed mod. see what happens the rollers twist and it makes them spin on the wire so it doesn't feed properly.

hi i have a 160 clarke arc welder and was thinking could i make it into a tig welder so i could put it to better use?
the only hurdle i can see is how would i attach the tig to the machine? also would i have use scratch start? something like this...
Ok got some 5mm thick 6082 today and made a couple of mounts. When i cut them out and tried them against the motor there wasnt as much space i was hoping for. as i was going to weld to flat pieces together now i found out this will not work.
