I did come across a few videos on YouTube of gas bottle rocket stoves and I like the idea of using one to heat my "workshop" with off-cuts and pallet wood.
In the videos these stoves were made from a big (47 L) gas bottle or 2 smaller welded on top of eachother and 100x100 box section for the...
I did put a few coats of varnish on it to protect it from spilled water. It's reclaimed wood that I quickly ran over the planet, so it's not a perfect job.
Yes, very satisfying! I wanted to be able to weld for years, but I've always put other things ahead. Now that I did bought a welder I'll be...
I did try to borrow a chuck with taper from someone locally, but no luck. So I ended up buying a new set and I've installed it today. Now the drill bit runs true! I'll try to separate the old chuck from its taper and combine that with the new taper.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions (and a special thanks to @Robert Mullins for his detailed description).
I'll cut a few new pieces and give it another go!

I've made an attempt to weld up a square out of angle iron (20x20x3) but I've failed miserably.
A video says more than a thousand words, so please feel free to give up 6 minutes of your life to watch my professionally produced montage and a few more minutes to critique my work methods.
Much...
This is my first welding project. I wanted an easy and achievable project to start out with.
My wife has 3 tortoises that needed a place to stay indoors this winter. I ended up buying a second hand aquarium, stripped it, cleaned it and built a stand for it.
Because we also have young children...
Thanks, @slim_boy_fat! I did come across his post (as it is an obvious result when you Google for "Sharp SE-330". However, he talks about replacing the bearings without really knowing if this is the issue. I've also watched the video, but this was more about "how to take apart" instead of "how...
Thanks for the suggestions.
I just realised that "micrometer" is a different measuring instrument than a precision dial gauge. I don't have such precision dial gauge at my disposal, but I can try to find some locally who can lend me one.
Can I "blue the taper" using permanent marker or do you...
I mean that it is spinning off centre. I can't feel any play at the chuck.
I also don't have a micrometer and a lathe that I could use to check the different parts of the shaft/chuck for play.

I got my hands on a drill press (1986 Sharp SE-330BS) for a fair price. However, after a few uses I noticed that the head is a bit wobbly. This became most apparent when I did put in a longer drill bit.
I did remove the chuck and put it back in as I thought it might have come loose. However...
Do you use cutting oil when using this bandsaw? I'm using mine without, but I cut small stuff and regularly lift the blade (so I don't cut it all in one go).

I did buy a similar saw at a Dutch online store a couple of weeks ago. It looks the same as the Scheppach with a different sticker. I've used it for about 50 cuts now (mainly 25x25 box section and 25x25 angle iron) and it does work great for that price. It's much easier (and less noisy!) than...
Yesterday I did spent at a "welding academy" where an experienced welder teached me one-on-one during 2 sessions of 3 1/4 hours. I must admit this was the best €250 I've spent on a hobby.
Since I've only had some practise at home laying beads and welding up a square made out of 25x25x3 tubing...
Sorry, I didn't take a picture of the back and these pieces are now rusting in the scrap bin. I've been doing some exercises with scrap tubing and sheet that I acquire at a local metals dealer (or how do you call this in proper English?).
I'll be taking a few sessions of one-on-one training in...
Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I'm happy with the 160, but I've no other welder experience to compare against.
I'll send you a PM with the link to the store where I've bought it.

The basement workshop has a double door (size of a garage door) that I open and I pull the mobile workbench closer to it for welding. It helps a lot with ventilation and until now no smell has entered the house. When welding in the garage workshop I open the garage door about halfway and I open...
I'm drawing a welding cart with folding welding table (like the one featured in "that" YouTube video) as one of my first projects. When I saw that video I knew it would fit nicely in my workshop.
