Before buying a brass clamp off eBay for about £20 like this...

(really like it - seems solid to me)
I made my own. Works quite well surprisingly...
I just tapped a hole in a cheap 4" G clamp and used part of...
Settings before I go blow myself up:
- Welding helmet (check)
- Welding gloves (check)
- Welding apron (check)
- Nikes (check)
From the gloves and apron you show you want to be safe. I'd recommend some boots with a protective toe caps. Then you can forget about your shoes melting...
Seems like over kill (is that a 40-400 amp stick welder?). Old, rusty, big, and heavy. Plus a long drive (Northumberland to Cumnock) during lockdown?
Lost what to do? Maybe...
Welder (I own one): https://www.parkerbrand.co.uk/160-amp-portable-mini-inverter-welder-15-duty-cycle...
The red one in the helmet group shot above is a cheap one (Spargo). Looks cool I guess with skulls and cross pistons for the graphics but is truly cr*p. I showed a photo of looking through it in the thread below...

I really like the Esab F10 (previously called the Eco Arc II) but it's passive/fixed shade.
FYI I've just posted the below. I don't rate the Parweld. I seem to be the only dissenting opinion on the XR938H at the moment. :(

I think I'm going to have to be the dissenting opinion on the XR938H.
I got one as a Christmas present and I'm just glad I didn't spend my own money on it. :vsad:
True Colour is nice (I guess). I wouldn't call it a gimmick, but it's not a night and day difference. It's not a must...
I assume that the helmet was down for all the time the arc was on? The helmet fitted your head correctly and covered your face and eyes? And there wasn't any reflections from the arc getting into the helmet? Nothing like a bright surface bouncing the light into the back of the helmet (mirror...
