Have not tried welding much steel with it yet other than removing a broken tap which it did a great job of! I'll give it a go welding some steel plate though, I just bought the machine to practice aluminium welding mainly as I already have a mig which I use for steel.
I've ordered some white...
Hi guys, not been on here in a while.. I’ve just recently purchased a cheap AC/DC TIG machine and I’m looking for some advice.
I bought it as I want to practice aluminium welding and basically I’m just looking for some pointers on what type of tungsten and filler rod I should be looking for...
I did have a good look inside the sills after cutting out the rust and they looked pretty clean all the way down to the front so thought it would be overkill doing the whole sills and I wanted to keep it inside the area of the rubberised undercoating so i didn’t need so much paint afterwards. I...
I like the look of those flat top ones I could do with something like that for next time, I just went and measured the ones I have and they’re only 17” at full height so something like what you have would give me loads more room. I do need to clean up the front jacking points and redo the...
Ahh my bad, well then you’ve definitely got a lot of work to do ha ha..
Hmm that’s true I guess the space would still be quite tight with a lift, maybe a scissor lift would be better but I suppose it depends on the car and if there’s a suitable place to put the pads other than the jacking...
Sounds like you’ve got a lot of work to do on those 3! I think if I did it again I could of really done with getting the car a bit higher off the ground it was a bit of a struggle for space with the axle stands. I’d love a 2 post lift but not enough roof height in the garage unfortunately.
Well guys it’s all done, seam sealed inside and out, stonechipped, painted, lacquered, cavity waxed.
Pretty happy with it, you can see a very slight difference in the stone chip texture if you get on the floor and inspect it, I guess I could have stone chipped the whole sills both sides but you...
Thought I would add a last update to this for anyone that’s interested, I’m glad to say I’ve welded the last piece on today and finished it. Not much warping at all which I’m l pretty happy with so now on to stonechip and paint before I can finally drive my car again.. just managed to get it...
I have this issue with mine but only when I’ve been using the welder for a while at first it’s ok then it will start burning back to the tip even though the settings are all the same, weird.
Got this bit done inside the wheel arch this evening welded on and ground down, bit of an awkward shape to make but it’s done now, just the last piece of the outside sill to cut to size and weld on and I’ll be done welding!
Thank you, still not finished it yet just chopped out the rust on the other side. Ended up catching covid after Christmas so that’s slowed me down. Hopefully I can get it finished and back on the road this month. Might upload some more photos once I’ve started welding in the drivers side.
Got it welded in today and mostly ground down, need to go back and fill in a hole I burnt just on the underside of the sill, overall I’m happy with how it’s gone though, needs a little bit more finishing off and maybe a few pinholes filling but I’ll get back to it after Christmas then on to the...
Yeah made a start on it today and tacked it in place, will do a bit more tomorrow, taking my time as it’s been a while since I’ve done any welding. Hopefully it goes OK.. luckily I’ve got another car to drive over winter as I’m far from the fastest welder ha ha.. Merry Christmas to you too.
Thanks guys, managed to cut it to the right size in the end with a combination of measurements from the old cut out pieces and cardboard template. Fits pretty good after a lot of fiddling around bending it into shape. Not the best matching sill panel! Anyways just have to weld it on now then...
Hi guys,
It's been a while since I have been on this forum, I am currently in the process of repairing rusted sills on my Mk5 VW Golf, its just the rear section of both sills that began to rust through so I'm wanting to sort it out before it spreads and I'm having to put whole sill panels on...
Yes it has a whistle that goes off if the pressure drops, it seems to keep up ok though so far. The data sheet you linked there looks correct, same as the one that came with the mask.
