The replies have many good options for you
This is how I personally would prep for recoating and have done many times
I would 320 dry DA
800 wet and dry to prep curves and tight spots
If any really difficult places with wet and dry I would then prep with scotchbrite
Make sure well keyed...
Hi all
My question is this and please be gentle for a newbie
I was a panel beater/ painter for some years and used mig welder for body repairs
Very rarely used an arc welder
Can you please tell me if you had 160 mig and 160 arc why would the arc do thicker metal, i have been reading the forums...
I would be tempted to flat again with 2000 and watch how you go, not sure if 2 coats of paint would take it though. It looks like your nearly there, is the body metal or grp?
2k is considerably harder than cellulose, you could try a stronger cutting compound then go to lighter stuff to get the...
I was a panel beater painter for 16 years and used 800 wet n dry for primer flatting until we went to dry flatting
When ever flatting topcoat clear or solid we never went below 1200 and often used 1500 this was again wet n dry until we went to dry flatting, it did take time but easier when time...
as the snooper said I would check your buffing head it's helps to be damp to stop burning and this has to be spotless
I would use farecla g3 for buffing then finish with 3m hand glaze to eliminate the swirls
I would be surprised if its the paper also, I would say it could be contamination but without photos it's hard to tell.
Did you read my above post on cleanliness
600 is very coarse in my opinion, this could be the problem.
Using the finer paper to now go over the coarse will take some rubbing to remove
How many coats have you put on
What paint have you used celly or 2k
Hi islandjj
If you are flatting out orange peel then the paper your using seems ok for job.
Your equipment has to be super clean, what I used to do was use a little soap in the water, helps to glide easily.
Make sure your paper has soaked in the water for 5 to 10 minutes, this also helps.
Before...
Hey chunko
That's what I call lovvvvve, what a lovely and different gift for your girl
Absolutely love that piece of work, wish I could do it for my wife
Nice one m8
Hey Stewart
Just seen your thread and thought I would help if poss.
I used to be a panel beater some years back but car accident finished that career.
Anyway, yes unfortunately some pattern parts can be a nightmare to fit and some are just ok, we used to find where we ordered from made quite a...
Hey guys and gals heres my attempt at my first welding trolley, box section from office table i think and angle iron from scrap dealer, had new stuff so not much grinding and cleaning.
Primed with undercoat then topped with Dulux weathershield, used the same on my railings still looking good 5...
Hey guys just thought i would show you what i did to the trigger on my cebora torch, i do engraving and the material used is called traffolyte, i have plenty of 3mm so used that (thanks mike for the suggestion to make something)
Did some filing and a little shaping then mixed some epoxy resin...
mr fuzzy some people gloss then emulsion, I emulsion then gloss, that's just how I like it.
Cutting in does take practice and a steady hand, in my opinion a decent brush also helps. Some of the newer and dearer synthetics as mentioned have there tips acid tipped to help with nice sharp cutting...
The only other brush recommended by some professinals are the picassos, my old man and his brother were painters and decs for 50 years man and boy. Trying to convince them to buy decent synthetics as mentioned to use with water based, trying being the word.
Gloss based paint relies on sunlight...
Hey Daniel
I've used johnstones aqua quite a while now and find it good stuff trade only though from johnstones trade centre near me. If you have bare wood it will need primer first, I use leyland acrylic primer undercoat because it dries fast and I can crack on with job.
If its painted already...
A few of my mates have the snap on migs and they have the same trigger but not as fussy as me lol, cebora made them and snap on put there label on it, think boc and a few others
Yes see what you mean, I would prefer that torch, the cebora has a completely different trigger. Why they did this trigger on a mig that was supposed to be a half decent welder, very poor idea
