I bought a mini arc 150 on eBay for pretty cheap and the welder keeps powering up, fan runs then the front light goes out and nothing works. The switch light stays on so it's not a supply issue. Any ideas?
Although i have a pretty large shop it is a little cramped with all the crap, i mean useful future resources, that my old man has acquired over the past 30 years. So i have little space for large projects unless i'm scrabbling about on the floor. With a bad back and a knackered knee this is no...
I ended up running a load of test welds wacking the settings right down so the welder didn't cut out and still making sure i had the penetration. I ended up welding 10mm plate with 1mm wire with the welder set to 2.3mm thickness. Worked really well.
I get a bad cough when doing lots of welding, doesn't help i like to be close to the weld. I might need to get my eyes checked. I now have disposable masks when i'm doing lots of welding, or wait for a windy day.
not to throw another into the mix but i bought a sif weld mts 200 about 6 months ago and it's light weight and very easy to use. I found the thermal arc was too big for what i wanted.

I found a wheeled golf caddy and some old galvanised troughs outside someones house (with a free sticker on not in someones boot) think they might go well into a welding trolley or just a good bottle carrier.
Here are some pics of the welder and some weld tests. I initially had some problems with the welder not running the wire through and after a quick phone call to the supplier and a very sarcastic 'have you turned the tensioner down?', the welder ran like a dream. Having never used a mig before i...
I've never used Tig before, and i was looking for a mig/mma unit only but the option to be able to use it in the future is really appealing and seeing as i'm looking to build a new workshop later on in the year means i'll have the room to experiment.
Thanks, i think the combi welder idea is great, i am worried slightly that like many machines that are designed to do many jobs, corners are cut on, which makes them not as good as single units. I am looking forward to being able to weld a wider variety of materials like 2mm stainless. I have...
Thanks for the reply i have started a new thread as i have decided to go for a multi process unit. I'm looking at the thermal arc 181 or my local dealer has a sif welder 200amp that he'll do for the same price.
I have decided to invest in a mig/mma welder instead of getting a second hand mig to run alongside my stick welder.
I am looking at the Thermal Arc fabricator 181 or the 221. I then called my local dealer and he said he had a SIF mig/mma 200amp for the same price as the 181. I can't find any...
