It is the "bearing" surfaces in these areas that are worn to an oval, I could dissmatle, weld, drill out, etc, but a new latch would be more cost effective.
It's moulded on and wont come off without damaging, the user would prefer to keep in tact for the time being. I've asked the manufacturer of the case (in France) also.
I've applied for a CoC from VW, but I think it will confirm that the car is Euro 5+, and in they eyes of the LEZ, that's not good enough so I'm stuffed.
It looks like the Parkers site that says it's 6 is probably wrong.
We are getting them in a matter of weeks up here north of the border. I was feeling like I would be ok as I thought my Golf 1.6tdi, low emissions Bluemotion, tax exempt car, March 2015 registered, would be at least Euro 6.
I checked on the Scottish car check web site and it says No! Your car is...
Time to replace the other side as I have a spare. The CATs are a pita to get out as they are fitted down the back of the engine, and the near side is under the coolant top up bottle.
It's down there.
30 mins later the top nuts were off.....
.....plus one stud.
On to the bottom, well...
I identified some suitable nichrome wire that I could use as a heater, however when I showed the end user the chart they said it was good enough.
An alternative to messing round with a heater wire was to stick in a cheap pid controller, that was going to be my next step, however the jobs now...
The new capillary thermostat from RS worked well enough without the additional heater. The target temp is 30.5degC, it's currently oscillating ~+-1 degC around the setpoint which is accurate enough.
Back at work on Friday, I'll try out the new one from RS compared to the existing one with the heater. I'll do temp measurements every 5 mins over an hour test for each.
I got another couple of quotes with decent cover, but.......
Footman James £300
Hagerty £400
RAC wanted an additional £200 to add European breakdown/recovery to my existing UK breakdown cover for 16 day trip.
Looks like it's going to cost one way or another.
I need to renew in a few weeks and want to ensure I have good European cover as we plan a trip to Europe in June.
I was just checking my existing policy with ClassicLine, it has a couple of major issues I found in the small print.
1) it only provides 3rd party cover when in in Europe.
2) if...
That makes sense, I'll do a couple of runs with and without the heater and look at the temp ramp cycle and compare.
If that's it, I'll try to unwind the heater and apply to the new one I've ordered from RS.
Has anyone seen this before, the bulb on this capillary thermostat seems to have a heater wire wrapped round it. Any thoughts on why this would be done?
This is the front of the thermostat.
The rear.
The bulb with the heater wire wrapped round it.
The heater wires go to this 240V to 3V...
Speakers out.
And back in with plenty sealant.
Rear seat out, looks like the bow wave got under it too.
More puddles.
Seats unbolted and moved forward, then I could pull out the soaked underlay.
Thankfully that the rot hasn't set in.
The damp hasn't got any further forwards so...
Next, this one will be a big job, total interior strip out.
I lifted the rear carpet, underlay is soaked.
The water is getting in via the seal round the rear door speakers seal that's has disintegrated. The other side is worse.
I'll need a few dry days to tackle this one. I hope to salvage...
