Get yourself some lessons. I did a course at Tresham with a brilliant guy called Pete Eades which really set me up for self learning afterwards. Once you understand set up, choice of tungsten and even sharpening it you have the fundamentals. Having an experienced eye analyse and correct makes...
I need a bit of advice on what grinding wheel to get for sharpening my TCT lathe tools.
I have a 6" bench grinder and I'm trying to find a green grit wheel for it but what grade? Fine or medium look best but I can't find any the right size (20mm) and course looks too harsh.
Also how to dress...
Another quick and dirty way to cut off the blobs is to use the small bolt cutting holes that you find in some Cheapo crimping tools. You lose about 3mm of tungsten each time, but it's quick and easy. Careful though, as the blobs fire out like little bullets so watch where you're pointing it!
One big advantage of using a diamond wheel is if you dip the tungsten and get that big ally blob on it you can use the corner of the wheel to cut the tungsten off and save a stack of grinding.
Or so I've heard anyway....:whistle::whistle::whistle:
Plus of course the wheels are great for...
FWIW millions of X-ray quality welds have been made on site using whatever was to hand for tungstensharpening. While i don't doubt it's possible to contaminate tungstens while grinding them if you try hard enough it's not easy... a soft metal like ally and it's very easy to smear all sorts of...
Hey guys after little help received my r tech tig161 the other and set it up today im getting the hf spark but no arc.
Ive tried all the things in the instructions like sharpening and replace tungsten, changing the current doesnt seem to do out ever and got the gas set between 8-12lpm. Ive check...
I use the same wheel for sharpening drills, lathe tools, tungstens & pencils.
I've never used or suggested others should use acetone,
and I certainly never sharpen on a flap wheel.
BTW you might find an Esab warrior is a shade 9 to 13.
Noods, if you have a problem taking in, and remembering...
Thanks for the reply guys. If I go much over 70 amps I am sure the tungsten disappears? I have the balance at 50% usually so I can shift that around nearer to 70% as suggested and give that a crack. Should I have a 2.4 tungsten really? Is white tip the best? Should I be sharpening it to start...
No advantage using a green stone for tungsten electrodes, they are designed for tungsten tooling, an aluminium oxide wheel is just fine, cheaper, and will last longer
i bought mine last year and use it for drill sharpening on the stone and tungstensharpening on the belt. its ok for that but for anything else i use my pedestal grinder.
I have had this bench grinder for over a year now. Havn't used it a great deal to be honest, but it does what I specifically bought it for....sharpeningtungstens.
Its not an industrial machine by any means, so dont expect a lot, but is quite suitable for the small home workshop for sharpening...
yeah i just bought a pair of JCB steel toes from ebay. Was just about the press the button on a pair for £50, when i spied a "worn once" pair for £15 though. So i saved a few bob on that one.
There is also a nice little bench grinder wheel with a belt sander on the other side, (also from the...
Helium will make it hotter as said. Pulse is your friend for stupidly thin stuff... at high frequencies it constricts and stiffens the arc improving focus and stabilty. Still no margin for error but a bit more forgiving than constant current. Undoubtadly a lot easier than what you're trying...
Been busy getting my tig up and running and doing some practise runs.
I did a lot of faffing around on the net and thinking about buying an extra tool for sharpeningtungstens (bench vice? belt sander? angle grinder even?). Today I just used some diamond cutting disks (£3) attached to my dremel...
Been having some issues with my TIG welding, hoping you guys can give me some pointers ?
1, I'm struggling to find the right amps to use on fillet welds. If I lower the amps, I struggle to get the puddle started down in the root (although a dab of rod into the arc seems to help start it), if I...
...to see if this video had been posted before and do not think it has-apologies if its already been posted up.
Note the chemical tungstensharpening. From my perspective I don't envisage tackling anodised ally,I would be fabbin up motorcycle bits from virgin ally, polishing it and then...
The thing is, we had the same machines in College... And I could always get a nice focused pool using the same settings.
Do you suppose my machine could be faulty ?? I suppose that's the first thing most people blame instead of themselves
Look like I'm going to have to...
