Most likely thats the cause, had bad argon gas before but not as bad as this! If fizzles when i weld even mild steel... I have to keep grinding the tungsten as it contaminates too easy!
The thing is gents let’s be fair here unless you buy the most Micky mouse brand on the market when your learning to tig weld they on the most part will do the job. I’ve done enough work now with new comers to tig welding and tungsten types and brands is a subject that gets waaaaaaaaaaay over...
more questions....
too much heat seems to be causing the dull looking welds was getting...but...tried an outside corner weld and it came out much shinier than most if not any weld/bead I've ran before. why? likely causes?
also only way I can get that 'stack of dimes' defined look is jumping...
Well I finally found some time and an excuse to do some joints.
After a few doh moments (forgetting to turn on gas, not noticing it was in AC mode) and a lot of subsequent grinding of tips I started blowing holes through thin metal.
So decided to attempt some tacks and corners to bodge...
I trained at the TWI and the guy there stopped using them after he had to go through cancer treatment. I've not used them since then in all my training programmes and warn the learners of the hazards of using them without a vacuum tungsten grinder.
The gold lanthanated ones are good as are the...
In theory you can use any tungsten flavour you like and get results. It’s talked about a lot and exaggerated more often than not. Thoriated tungstens work fine on ac if you keep the ac balance more devoted into the negative side. Under a lot of positive for cleaning they tend to curl up and I...
I've ordered some gold tops to try out.. my only concern with now using thoriated on AC and DC is the potential health risk.. I know the radioactive properties are said to be very low risk, but as a trainer I prep all the machines before each session including grinding the tips, I have to show...
That there is simple contamination in my humble opinion. once the tungsten tig gets contaminated you will get results like this until you remove the contamination.. grinding a fresh point is not enough as the contamination is often further back. you need to snap off the effected part of the...
I neede a new oilstone , read this description, wtf
, Gray carbon Whetstone, with high hardness and a certain toughness, hardness second only to boron Whetstone, abrasive sharp, good thermal conductivity, used for optical glass, tungsten carbide, titanium, agate, cylinder liner, bearing steel...
We're making presents again this year for xmas and after the deer we made last year was so well received we've decided to do more of the same.
Here's this weekend's work.
First step is to get the design onto some lining paper. It's thick enough to provide a nice edge to trace a pen against but...
grinding it with a flap disc imbeds particles from the disc and what ever you were grinding off the surface into the material.
was your tungsten clean the whole time or did you 'touch down'??
I...ummmm...know this bloke who tried to weld 8mm ali together with full power from my...HIS...TIG welder and got a blob of Tungsten laying right at the finished surface of the component. Any suggestions as to how it should be removed? Carbide grinding bit? Cobalt drill?
