Hello all!
Ive been floating around this forum for over a month now, and as every other new member seems to say, this is a fantastic site! Loving alot of the project and look forward to tackling my own
Bought a Clarke 151TE a few weeks ago, and practiced with it for about 20mins on some thin galv a week later (not particularly nice), but not had much time to have a good play.
Anyway, yesterday whilst working on my brothers car, he managed to strip one of the wheel nuts, they are really awful nuts, they have metal caps over the top which make them 19mm, but this one had fallen off and my brother not realising continued to use the 19 and rounded off all the edges. One broken socket later, out comes the new angle grinder and welder
First i flatened the end of the wheel nut and very roughly clamped a nut in place with mole grips. Then tacked it on the top, removed the mole grips and welded round the nut. Then used the grinder and tidied up the weld so i could get the socket on, 1 minute later and the wheel was off
I know its really not an exciting story for most people on here, but for my first practical use of the welder, i was chuffed to bits
I cant wait to get cracking and take on some meaningfull projects, planning to build a welding cart and also one of the gas bottle workshop heaters. Just abit skint at the moment so they are on hold for now.
Just wanted to say hello and a big thank you to all on here for giving such great advice
