Afternoon Gents,
so i have dug my dusty old Clarke 150te turbo (the old one with the 3 switchs) out of the shed and decided to finally learn how to weld, well first impressions............. its an art form and your guys make it seem effortless.
first try laid a bead that was very "gappy" and i could just brake the bead (balls) off with a pair of plyers and the surface metal looks like it hadn't been touched, second try welded the wire to the tip (of course i only had the one) game over...
so i have ordered some new tips
Questions
1) i have installed new wire and have ordered some new tips, anything else i should change as the welder has been sat for over 8 yrs
2) looked at some local welding courses 650 + vat so i thought to myself sod that for that money i can buy lots of scrap some extras for the welder like a proper gas bottle and regulator and spend a weekend welding. so iv looked up local gas suppliers and the best value for money seems to be adams gas...
the thing is most of the gas suppliers supply 5% co2 where my manual states the welder is meant to use 25% will this make a great difference?
3) as im going to be welding prob once or twice a year im thinking about selling my machine and getting a gassless or arc, but both i have read cant really handle thin metal is this correct?
at the moment i an trying unsuccessfully to weld 3mm and 2mm box section but would prob see me welding 1-5 mm not anything thicker.
Thanks in advance for your thought and hope to upload some weld photos soon so you can point me in the correct path
cheers
jamie
