takes a while to set up but companys like murphy use crc evans gear with highly trained guys get consistent good quality and production stick still used for tie ins and road crossings mostly filled by flux cored bug but uphill lovelyl finish too its done camel train fashion so naturally you have to keep up with the station in front also you may only have 2 or 3 preheat cycles if there is a big hold up and you dont maintain the minimum preaheat the weld will be chopped and re prepped to do this you need side booms to lift and re position tons of pipe or they may cut out a section and refit a pup piece with 2 welds at a cost ive been told of 16k reckon its 1m per kilometre no pressure on the welders eh guys worth every penny imo ps been there done itAre these guys on piece work or what? (see around 6m 40s)
I get the feeling that this is all staged & rush - rush - rush.
We did some trials on this kind of gear for high pressure gas & oil transmission lines and had enormous problems with consistent weld quality & repeatability over conventional stick welding.
Not to mention set up issues at site.....
seen one chasing a frenchman out the pipe did a parachute roll as he emerged and clamp shot over the top of him weighs about a ton and a half have whiskers that spring out when it comes out of the pipe which turns off the air which drives the wheels SACRE BLEU also seen them doing the runaway train inside wet pipes on a steep incline
