He'll serve you well, wouldn't be the forum sponsor if he wasn't liked well would he?
Don't be too disillusioned, I do believe it's a skill that can take a while to master, so just stick with it. I'm sure perseverance will pay off in the end.I bought an R-tech 160 ac/dc to delve into the wonders of tig welding.... but I think i've discovered I'm one of the people who can't do it very well. Stronger spectacles would be a good start, and more practise, but I don't seem to feel the motivation after my first few disappointing days of trying.
I'm ashamed to say I bought the Sherman 206P....and its still in the loft in its box. I will get to do TIG eventually....just need to find the time! The only good sherman is the rebadged Jasic which is nigh on impossible to get hold of.
That Sherman you linked to -that's the Jasic clone isn't it? I'd have a go at that - will they not sell to UK users?I'd prefer a new chinese one to a used chinese one. If I hadnt already got the Sherman I would try one of their currently available models. People must be buying them, not seen any failures reported on here.
There are the cheaper analoge AC tig known as WSME-200, they are about £350, but seem to fail more than the digital types - there has been a few repair threads on here. I'd avoid these.
There is an ebay shop offering fixed price repairs for chinese inverters, so I dont see it as being all that risky. Most electricals are made in China and I'd say they are quite good at it.
This is the one many of us bought. Im unsure if weldes will ship to the UK but perhaps get it sent to a frenchy and smuggle it back?

You might be able to use a drop box service....so get it shipped to an EU address and then forwarded on to the UK. I used to do that a lot with US sellers who wouldn't direct ship into the UK. There will be a fee but I think the savings will still be worth it.it appears that despite having a UK version of their website, weldes no longer ship to the UK

Good as any other I imagine, perhaps better as they will need to keep a good reputation. The Shermans, if bought from greyeagleshop.co.uk, do come with a two-year warranty. How good that would prove to be, who knows? They do state that it doesn't cover cost of pick-up or return.
