Hi all,
I'm new to TIG welding and have been practising a lot. Below are some of my practise lap joints, I would appreciate it if someone could critique my welds and give me tips for improvement.
Both metals were sanded clean and wiped with acetone.
All welds were done with using a tight arc length and minimal torch angle with the heat directed at the base metal. Done using a foot pedal with a 1.6 thoriated tungsten, CK gas saver no. 8 cup with 5 lpm and the following amount of stick out:
Mild steel:
With bright clean cold rolled mild steel I found that I was getting a lot of contaminents that kept boiling to the surface and therefore making it difficult to weld. The steel was properly prepared and cleaned and the filler rod was kept in the argon all the time.
Stainless:
I find stainless much easier to weld and there's no containments that boil and therefore make it much easier to control the puddle and ultimately a much better weld.
Can anyone advise what I can do to stop getting containments on the mild steel?
I am a complete beginner so would appreciate any help please!
