Evening all,
I've got a defender 90 which has had a disco 200tdi transplant before i purchased it a few years ago. Pulled really well and had no issues, until now. As it was not known when the timing belt was last changed, decided it would be wise to do so, along with a full service.
However on completion I feel that it is down on power and there is black smoke under acceleration unlike before. Although the most alarming thing is that it seems to be running alot hotter then before, previously never got above half way on the gauge, now it will go to well over half and the fan seems to be running quite often when i turn the engine off.
The engine is running smoothly still with no diesel knock, not using any water or oil. No oil in the air filter.
Is it possible to be out one tooth on the crank pulley and experience the above symptoms with everything appearing normal??
I feel its a timing issue as it has only appeared after the belt was changed (although i'm just being paraniod apparently!), though tonight whilst checking that the engine was not air locked and checking everything was in order, i tried to move the watsegate actuator and it would not move whatsoever, should it be possible to get a small amount of movement whilst its still connected?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I know there are a few Land Rover owners on here who may have experienced this or similar before.
Thanks
