Hello,
I am new to welding, restoration of my motorcycle forced to read and learn about welding and brazing.
I am restoring Yamaha RD350, silencers and bend pipes have dents and rust pitting on them. I need to sort out the dents and pits before I hand them over to the plater for plating of chrome. Browsed internet for information, and narrowed down the options to these:-
1. Lead Filling.
2. Brass Brazing.
Followed by coat of copper. On youtube found this video about lead filling,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ_85fp1avs
for sure he makes it look very simple but I feel it’s not that easy as it looks.
I will get the old chrome stripped before undertaking the filler work. I don’t want to cut open the exhaust. I will use my college apparatus to do the job, we have MIG and TIG.
The bend pipes are prone to high temperature, will lead hold on to such high temperature?
How should I go about it?I have attached some pictures of silencers current condition.
