Only just saw this. Yeah, maybe.
Collected on Tuesday, bike is clean for 57k. Also has a Nitron rear shock which will go on the Urban Tiger as I’m keeping that one. This will no doubt get recommissioned and moved on later in the year.
Back on with the 929 today, stripped down my seat/trunk lock and dressed the wafers to key it to the same ignition key. Also had to cut and solder the plugs from a spare loom back on to the underseat loom as the tail light wiring was chopped to fit an aftermarket clear light. Still need to wait for a spare lamp holder to arrive as one of the pins has been snapped. Seat plastics fitted and all fixings replaced.
I have a blue seat plastics arriving as the colour scheme will be incorrect with the marked/damaged white one I bought.
Undertray and indicators already replaced.
Mounted the front fairing inners before fitting the new indicators then decided to fit non standard Tyco waterproof plugs as I never had the current plugs n the aftermarket blinkers.
On stop again, connecting up the throttle cables and found the twist grip internals damaged. Got another off the bay.
There was only one throttle cable fitted too!
The guy was an animal! This bike genuinely suffered at the hands of a monster!
At least it’s in a better place now. Not too far away from running this thing up to see if the engine I bought was a duffer!
I’m keeping everything crossed. It turns over at least so I know it’s not seized.
So, the story so far is this was a £400 bike and I’m now in it for £1900! All parts bought used aside from service items like bearings, oils, seals, filter, tyres and powder coat. Mechanically (providing the engine is ok) it’ll be a relatively cheap bike, but it’ll still look a scruff due to the used bodywork, and I could have got Chinese fairings for £360 minus the tank.
I’m waiting for the throttle to arrive before I can fit the Airbox and tank and turn it over. Getting close.
Fitted my throttle, and then spent 3 days trying to figure out what I’d done wrong as the fuel pump wouldn’t prime. Tried everything, swapped all new parts out for the originals and back again. No change. I was missing the switched earth from the ecu when cycling the ignition. Using a power probe I could get the fuel pump relay to close and even run the pump but then it wouldn’t fire. Injectors and coils not working. Eventually traced the immobiliser circuit back to the key transponder aerial. One previously bodged wire, snapped, twisted and taped up in the loom, found it snapped again! Solder and shrink cured that one and the bike started on the button after priming the pump.
That meant I could focus on refitting the airbox , exhaust exup valve, painted the mirrors, fuel cap and tank mount before fitting the tank. Still need to bleed the front brakes and fill it with coolant.
Close now but only a little time before I return to work. Might finish it. Also lost 2 half days helping my daughter move house. Joy oh bliss.
Finished setting up the EGCV today and turned my attention to the coolant. Started filling it and it was coming out as fast as it was going in. Rad shot! Found a spare in the garage of doom and it was water tight, so ran it up and did a full heat cycle until the fan kicked in. Got dragged away by SWMBO, went back to it tonight with my lad and bled the brakes. Tomorrow, fairings back on and it’s ready for a ticket. Might try and squeeze in a quick run. See how that pans out.
Took the CBR929 out for a quick shake down earlier. It nearly shook my bloody fillings out!! Needs a pair of brake discs, they’re warped to **Language**! True to form this Bloody CBR almost consists solely of new (used) parts.
At least it runs ok and goes through the gears.
