Yes, that picture was taken for a different reason, and No because that is not a rotating magnet, it is a rotating magnetic field chopper, the magnets are horse shoe type.

iv had lots of broken ones as people assume they just pull off
i did a 180 degree bosch
for an early moto reve 50 degree v twin it had an eccentric gear train that
enabled the 180 output to be in position correctly
some of the veteran stuff is not built to a price but more like a gun

watford did similar with a sleeve rotating around a bit over the armature it did similar to keep best sparks over the timing range
Not the cyclecar, but I fitted a handbrake lever to my 1914 Matchless combination with attached machine gun as one working brake does not cut it anymore, worried about a rear wheel puncture leaving me rolling down a hill.......... when I built it I added a period belt rim wheel to the sidecar but never got around to fitting a pedal to operate it, by chance my 1944 Austin lorry came with two handbrake levers, one in the middle for the handbrake and one to the right of the drivers seat for the winch, as I am not refitting the winch and would like an extra seat in the front I will be using the winch lever for the handbrake....................
I thought I would adjust the clutch ready for the run to Brighton tomorrow, found that the clutch was a tad loose on the mainshaft, so one thing led to another! I made a new stepped key, found a better washer and fitted a locking screw that I didn't even know should have been there! hopefully all ok for tomorrow!
Made it but I think the magneto is failing, often hard to start when it has been running and on the latter part of the run it lost one or one and a half cylinders every 5 miles or so and then recovered! And I won "best original V twin" not sure it deserved it but I'l take it! I also had a nice chat with Robert Pooley, if you know, you know.
