I use Makita 18v batteries and picked up a clone / Fakita soldering iron - it's now my preferred iron. (Search - I did a mini review)Is that a base station type?
I do have quite a few 18v Makita batteries still, I'm just a bit of a luddite with stuff and forget how far battery stuff has come.

Temp controlled, quick heat up, portable with a decent soft lead so it's easy to get where you need it.
Recommend you look at them, well worth considering.

Those were standard issue when I worked in the repair trade, 30 odd years ago. Tough as old boots. The elements do go sometimes, but that was with them in use 40 hours a week.Received from a forum member today
Untested but appears in good condition, must have been on a bench as the sides and bottom are like new. It's also refreshing to have a proper weighted base

That will serve you very well indeed. RS Components still sell every imaginable spare part for them.Received from a forum member today

Sadly my wife no longer works at Apex Tool group or I could have got a load of tips etc. I did get my own stash sorted before she left though.

I give in, I need a new soldering iron
I'm not looking for high end, top spec. I am looking for reliable, stable and can get spare tips
Adjustable temp would be nice, but not a deal breaker
240v is a must however
I used to have a selection of Antex irons, but no idea where they went, Ive been using a Work Zone one, but cannot get new tips and they are all dead
Mostly used for joining wires and soldering plugs on, usually phono but the odd UHF with mini8 cable
I've just resisted buying a £16 from Amazon, happy to spend more, but like I said, not doing smd or production work
i dare say it will last 6 x longer than the lidl one but hey ho
as it happens i was in lidl yesterday and they have a temperature controlled iron with base holder and solder for £10
annoyingly ive just spent £60 on a welleri dare say it will last 6 x longer than the lidl one but hey ho
Likewise, but I found one in a toolbox and put a thread on it, as a replacement.I have a parkside same as that, I do not like it, the tip practically dissolved after 6 months. And threaded - stupid.
