Drilling two 1" holes in brick work

I still have a small crater in my cheek 3 years later. It bloody hurt like hell.

Drill a small pilot hole maybe 12mm right through the wall.
Then drill a 30mm hole partly in from 1 side and finish it from the other side. No breakout and hopefully the 2 holes line up.

I did the hole!
The Amazon carbide hole cutter didn't run straight in the drill!
I drilled 10mm in then stopped
Borrowed a Dimond cutter that fell apart after 3/4 of the way through the brick finished with a chisel, no idea what the brick is so hard?

In the days before core drills, My Dad used to use a piece of steel pipe with teeth cut on the end and a club hammer.

Got me to do a few..i remember it well - whack, turn pipe, whack, turn pipe, repeat, repeat..

I think the pipes are still in the shed somewhere....
