Yep the small container method inside water lets you use small amounts and not contaminate the whole capacity of the cleaners worth of fluidMy cleaning fluid is 10:1 so I like the sound of the boiling water idea. I assume that you can put in the amount of fluid needed, rather than fill it every time?
Definitely trying this stuff, I usually make a concoction of various solvents, degreaser, dishwasher soap etc etc. - does it contain a rust inhibitor seems to say something about that on ebay? I'll give the powder a go tooI have 100% sucess with this product https://ebay.us/m/74z4HE
I buy the powder version of it as.I use alot of it.
Re an ultrasonic cleaner, buy the largest one you can afford pretty much. I use a 3 or 4L one suits me fine but I have access to a much larger one too my brother has for intake manifolds and larger parts.

I bought this 6L one on aliexpress and it has paid for itself already by rescuing a few chainsaw carbs.
There is thermostat control for the heat and a timer control for the ultrasonic so it is safe enough to leave unattended.
In fact you will need to leave it unattended as it is quite noisy. Not really loud but a constant irritating buzzing noise.
I have the bath filled with a strong tfr mix that works well on greasy stuff.
I use the powdered cleaner mixed in a plastic container for cleaning carbs. Don't make the mix too strong or it will turn the ally black.
As regard the heat, it does take a while to heat up, maybe 30 mins but I try to do stuff in batches so that only 1 heating is needed.
Up to 30 mins and temp up to 80 deg cHow long can you setting the timer for?
I always assumed i would just leave it going overnight, thinking ghe longer the better?
corn flakes packet works as a push to see if its gasketsToday I did the clean but got no further forward. All the symptoms are of a massive air leak as it will start and run briefly before dying, unless the venturi is totally blocked with a thumb, so it must be getting air from somewhere else. I have sprayed some brake cleaner around and got an occasional response, so took it all to bits again to check it. I removed the manifold spacer and found a good clean rubber seal on both parts, so was happy with that. The carb gaskets are certainly secondhand but in one piece and I am not convinced that could be the cause. I have no suitable gasket paper to make new ones so will have to buy some in. Sadly they are not cheap due to the fiver postage, but there we are.
The generator worked perfectly well before laying it up with fuel in it.
