Big v blocks almost finished , all sides milled square now and finished the angled part after a bit of head scratching on how to mount it to get both side equal angle and height . Just got to drill and tap top clamping points then mill out the slots where i can bolt it down to the table. Almost another project finished just got to actually finish it and not start something else !

I think for £80 you just couldnt make it inc parts a labour even close I suspect

Fitted 2 or the blanking plugs, the third will have to wait as I need to remove some covers and unbolt the coolant pipe to get it out of the way.

ER32 chuck from Temuuuu sale, some people will probably think chinese crap but I really don't see anything wrong with it. So, I needed to make a backplate to hold in on the boxford spindle.

And that is as far as I got as I broke the tip on my home made threading tool and it still needs a couple of spring cuts.
Plain recess before the thread is so it will tighten against the spindle register.

It fits on the spindle


Milled a couple of flats so I can make a spanner for removing it off the spindle

No me and not machining (but related) last weekend @Pete. turned a paving slab into a very nice surface plate.

It a 3 foot by 2 foot by 4 inch Crown granite plate I dug out of a back garden in Bristol years ago.
Pete kindly offered to lap it for me so I dragged it all the way back down from home.

It turned out to be in pretty good shape and very little lapping was required.

He even got his autocollimator out to check it

About 100kgs.
I had to walk it through the house and get it into the van myself.
I expected it to drop through the old suspended timber floor at every step.

I would have had to leave it behind now, getting old is no fun.

Been machining wood today with my industrial router and home made guide plate , first time I've used it seriously .
What a pity you can't weld bits back on that the router ripped out when the board clamp slipped and allowed the mask guide to exit stage right before I realises it . Ploughed out an unwanted half inch deep half inch wide groove some nine inches long from start to stop 3/4 inch in from the finished edge in my 15mm thick board .


I hope to be making a new part tomorrow but this time I'll pilot drill then screw both parts together in the required position Good news is the homemade router guide plate I made a while back works very well ...... All I need now is a wood burner for the scrap wood & sawdust .

Some M6 aluminium dome heads.

Two main problems, well 3, first was I screwed up on a couple while broaching, The end of the threads didn't anodise where they were screwed into the block and lastly I think the 5mm hex will make them too fragile but I have a 4mm broach on the way so that should be better.

Update, I have just tried to shear the heads off by putting an M6 nut on and holding it with a spanner then tightening as hard as I could with an hex key and I couldn't break them and the hex didn't even round so quite happy with the exception of the non anodised end of thread.

How do you get round that ? Suspend a handful in the tiny net bags you sometimes get easy peel tangerines in ?

No that wouldn't work as you need an electrical connection.
Normally I will use titanium wire to suspend things but it can be a pain to do things like these so I decided to try this method. I have ordered some titanium mesh and will make up a basket and see if that works, if not then it is back to the wire.
