Hi all,
I'm totally new to welding and after watching lots of video tutorials and reading up on it have now finished my maiden project with O/A (gas bottle wood burner ) One of the things i'm not sure of is when i used my rose bud heating tip i was shutting down the torch in the same way as the welding tips, acetylene off first, but while i get a small pop from the welding tip which i assume is normal i was getting a loud bang (like a small firework banger) each time from shutting down the rosebud, is this normal? or should i turn down both the gases to a slower flow and then turn it off. I was a nervous wreck from all the puddle popping i was getting so it might just be me worrying over nothing but thought someone here would know?
Also on the puddle popping i think it was down to too low pressure, my gauges don't show a fine enough range for me to accurately set the recommended pressure (i think i'm reading them right) so i was lighting the torch and turning it up on the regulator until i got the acetylene flame i was after but i'm not sure what is right. I read that either until the soot is gone or the flame starts to come away from the tip is right but the second way would be much more pressure than the soot way if i'm doing that right. I can't find video of how fierce a flame to expect which would help me work it out, most times i've seen it it seems a feathered flame but not very fierce, when i tried that, every time as soon as i got a puddle it blew out (getting pretty down on the whole thing at that point), back to the internet and i went with increasing pressure until it was a fairly raging flame, no soot but flame still well attached to tip, much better but still happening quite a bit, should i go more pressure? Is it possible to put too much pressure through the tip (number 5 on a murex set up for 2.5mm steel) or can i just keep upping it? Again it's probably just me being nervous
Would have loved to do a course on this which would be ideal for these points but i can't commit to a set evening a week, besides just wanted to get on with it if possible. If you can help much appreciated
