The general rule for choosing TPI is to have at least three teeth on the thickness of the metal that you are cutting.
Every days a school day

Are simonds any good? I recently bought 50 new old stock on ebay for £7, including postage. Bi-metal and made in USA. I've not had a chance to try them yet.
"Hacksaw - school days."
Few years ago - aged forty plus - I am at a bench in my workshop - cutting a bolt shorter in a vice with a hacksaw - with my back to the open roller shutter door.
From a distance - I heard a familiar voice bark out "use the full length of the blade Remmington".
I turned and there stood my old metal work teacher - My Dennet.
Well into his seventies - I can't have seen him for well over the thirty years.
These are what Im using, 18tpi. They are good. I bought them because the files are excellent.
Eclipse is owned by Spear & Jackson owned by SNH Global. According to the website S&J are still headquartered in Sheffield.
