1.67mm thinner? That’s a bit of a huge cockup. I can’t imagine how they would get that if it were clamped down solid. Good job you have material thickness left to play with, or it would be an expensive fubar.
I remember having some aluminium 1” bars milled to width in a local machine shop, somewhere in the third world, , but the clown doing it simply dropped them in the vice and cleaned up one side, without measuring, then when turned over there was not enough meat left to get anywhere near a clean face. I had cut them with a jigsaw, so left plenty of material on for clean up.
I did my apprenticeship in the machine shop, and I was always told to measure first, carefully, and to leave a ‘witness mark’ on each side to prove that it barely cleaned up.
Not initially to the machine shop guys. They told me that it was perfect and that the material moves with temp after machining and the holes being drilled. Thankfully they changed their tune and all seems to be well now. The back side, which is now the front side was also not so good, .3mm up and down along the length. So now I can see the 'witness' marks where they have 'skimmed' the surface. I have checked it with a straight edge I have and it feels much better than before, thankfully.
