I worked in a barge place, where they would cut down longer barges to go through the Canal de Midi, and weld them back together the other end.
I had just left HMS Lancaster and was working for Fleet Maintenance Group in Plymouth when it happened - I knew a couple of guys who were on the team that were on standby to go and assist. Shocking state of affairs and just a complete mess from the outset - even after all the initial cover up and the attempt to blame anything and everyone after the event Poo-Tin still stayed in power and deflected everything - if anything he came out of it stronger. Crazy!Horrible indeed, "can't accept help from these westerners it would make Russia look bad and weak."
That attitude that cost the lives of 23 men.
I'm sure I've saw a programme years ago about shipyards in Korea [or possibly Mitsubishi in Japan?] where they think nothing of cutting an already large ship in half, adding an extension to the middle, then rewelding the whole thing back together. Awesome to watch!
have a look at smit salvage, they're one of the bigger companies, have done some amazing lifts, cuts etc
Yes I believe it was torpedo fuel, High Test Peroxide or HTP, which accidentally detonated. They closed the watertight bulkheads but they knew they were beyond help.Horrible indeed, "can't accept help from these westerners it would make Russia look bad and weak."

And at some point, you become one yourselfYou do meet some right old characters.....
They had the aft escape hatch useable afaik, plus I would imagine like our boats, they carry emergency oxygen suppliesYes I believe it was torpedo fuel, High Test Peroxide or HTP, which accidentally detonated. They closed the watertight bulkheads but they knew they were beyond help.
They had time to write goodbye letters to their families and sweethearts before they suffocated.
Imagine it.

If they’re the same as ours, they have oxygen candlesI think they had some chemical reaction type oxygen generator, IIRC they had to venture into some water ridden parts of the sub to get more chemicals for the generator.
Something about submarines and feeling so helpless underwater just puts me off completely, Most of the submariners died on the explosion but those few left may have had it worse thinking about it very drawn out.
