Ah because nothing jap has any issues with, say, breaking in half do they?
and south of Brum is too close to the sea,,,,
Thats why i had two well serviced Ford rangers go bang, and know of about 4 others.
You dont hear that about TDI's
doesnt @Migmac always complain about his ranger?
friend of mine has one , and loves it ,, its a bit rusty in the back as he is a diver too and its usually full of wet salty dive kit.Mine were super comfy great to drive loads of fun, just weak
@Barlidge Bruce ran a people carrier for a few years, I think its taken him half way around the world and towed a caravan.
Bob
People often say Jap cars are not interesting...it's true...you never meet any interesting people when you haven't broken down at the side of the road waiting for recovery!
Volvo's are great...would have to be XC90 and they aren't cheap to run...or fix!

yep my friends is the mazda , and its been outstanding , bit rusty now but for its age it works well. The first two I had were brilliant but they were rebadged Mazdas. The 16 plate I have now is all Ford, fix or repair daily
the 200tdi was the best engine they ever made , practically indestructible ,, but
every single engine since then has got worse ,
300s are ok , as long as the old timing gear has been swapped , and you dont ever cook them or the bores go oval
td5s , laughable , dont start , pump issues , both of them , egr issues , bore wash on 5 , brain issues , injector problems
tdv6 , ah where to start , pumps , injectors all give trouble , injectors loads of bother egrs by the dozen .
transit engines and carbon problems , oil leaks and starting issues .
No one has a perfect record , and since common rail has crept in to try and keep emissions down diesel has become laughable and I wont mention gearboxes or air suspension , just out of decency ,, granted fifteen years on its starting to work , just as the euro 7 has killed diesel off all together ,
Trouble is with a 5k car needing a 7k engine swap , you have to throw it away , repaired it wont be worth what it owes , and if you try to drive it into the ground to get your money back there is no guarantee it will last long enough to do that either .
Have a look at the number of disco 3s on flea bay , needing an engine ,,, or a box , and the poor owner thinking they are worth thousands ,, they are worth about 55 quid a ton today.
I dont have anything against Land Rover , as I have mentioned on many occasions I make a lot of money fixing them ,, but for any one buying one believing all the '' best 4x4xfar ''rubbish I really do feel sorry for them , anyone who buys a 4x4 without actually needing one must have cash to burn , If its the high driving position and easy entry and exit thats needed most of the big manufacturers have 2wd versions of the full fat 4x4s now , thats not by accident .
I seldom see a bill for anything land rover related these days that isnt the fat end of a thousand pounds , that in my mind is too much to spend on a 4k car by far , and thats only if you had to do it once , with land rover its every time theres an issue , and there are plenty of them . I also do some recovery driving for a friend of mine usually heavy stuff , but he does a lot of LR stuff too , there are folk with defenders who have his number on speed dial , and the most amazing thing is they accept that the recovery thing is totally normal . I guess for them it is ,,, now this will be followed by the , My land rover has no rust , no leaks and does 50 to the gallon and 100mph brigade , all I can say is you must be very lucky, a lot of folk are not.
last count there were 17 land rover products in the yard waiting for their owners to either stump up cash to fix them , or the finance company to repo them .. The four staff that work there drive VW , Audi and Toyota , and with the exception of my old allroad , non of them are 4wd.
you dont get half the issues with petrol , granted they are not trouble free , but too many folk want a diesel to be a petrol and it isnt .The things that made old diesels great have long gone , as a guide if it hasnt got injector pipes or a warranty dont go near it.Blooming heck has the comma only just made it to ireland?
I get your point, but your points don't sum up modern land rovers it sums up all modern vehicles. I have a vivaro will be needing new injectors no worries they are cheap refurbished think again they never come out of the head now we are talking a replacement head, well fortunately i can skim the head and bore out the injectors but the van isnt worth it wouldn't be worth it if it was worth 4K
cam belt is due, as is a forever longer list of electrical faults so your point is aimed at anything past R reg
