I am trying to pick out a tig setup to get going with. I will be only welding steel, some weld build up, tig brazing and generally small parts. Many years ago I did a good bit of gas welding so I am hoping some of those skills will remain. Anyway I have lots of time on my hands at the moment
I have sworn that I will only buy European made machines as I am always disappointed in the end by the Chinese sourced options. This principle seems particularly valid with welders as by the time you get the rest of the gear and the consumables, the welder isn't a huge part of the total cost. I can't see spending more on a helmet than a welder for example So the budget will cover any small tig but I don't want to spend more than necessary.
I am in France and have 3 phase power if I need it.
I suspect that no mater what make I get, provided they they are working correctly they will perform very much the same, so Lorch, Fronius, EWM, Kemppi, ESAB even GYS etc should be more or less interchangeable from a performance standpoint. Does this ring true?
I am leaning towards Lorch right now but think perhaps I should go French and get the GYS machine.
many thanks
Luke
