Honestly it's not a stupid question...
The 6x6 I've just acquired has a Nissan LD28 (2.8 straight 6 with what we think is a Transit turbo on it).
The workshop / service manual for the engine says 4.3 litres for a non-filter swap (about 0.5l with a filter). Now problem number one - I don't trust the dipstick because there are no sensible markings on it. The one marking that appears to be on there appears to be a DIY job. Now I've got a spare engine (minus a crank, I seem to be making a habit of this) but the dipstick is a different location and the sump appears to be different. Which makes me question the 4.3l (it seems a rather small amount) but I guess the sump does look a little smaller than the one on my 300Tdi which takes a tad under 7 litres.
So how should one determine where it should be?
