I had a Touran a couple of years ago, bought as a family car - 1.4TSI engine, 07 reg. On paper (and when it was behaving itself), absolutely fantastic. However, the timing chain issues became a bit too scary after a close call, so got rid in a hurry.
Purchased a Citroen C4 Picasso 1.8 (again, in a hurry) to replace it, and after nearly two years I still hate it.
I’d get another Touran, but it can’t be a diesel as it’s not used for long trips apart from the odd day out. There seems to be a few bargains about, but I don’t want to get bitten with a dodgy engine again.
Is the 1.6FSI ok?

I had a 1.6 Bora years ago (99 reg I think), and again had timing issues (seized tensioner, I recall it had two?)
Can VW make good petrol motors, or do they just like to over complicate things?
