I haven’t done too much tig welding aluminum and was wondering, I see Doubleboost using copper to dam up areas or keep a hole in good shape repairing aluminum, would brass do the same thing or would it stick to the aluminum?
So I get this right - you place a "backing piece" behind the work and fill the work with tig filler rod?
Copper doesn't mix with the filler and keeps the temps low?
A piece of flattened copper water pipe is ideal for this kind of job, flexible enough to form snugly to the shape of the job and plenty thick enough to act as a heat sink, brass will work but if the arc touches it you risk zinc contamination in the root,
