I’m making two small spools today. Not what I’m meant to be doing and I’ve already f’d up but I’ve made it very clear I’m not a pipe fitter.
The pieces carry ash so wear through. No pressure etc.
Now the overall length of the bits i need to replace are 1415 and 990.l, face to face on the flanges.
The flanges are about 18mm thick and they do not match the size of the pipe, there’s a good 2mm all the way around.
How do I centre these flanges on the pipe? I’ve got no shims or stick rods. I’ve got a Mig and 5mm thick sheet.
Also how much do I recess the pipe into the flange? I’ve cut the poxy pipe 18mm short to be half in and half out of the flange but now think it’s too short! I think it needed a lot less, maybe only 5mm for a lap joint.
Oh well not my problem if it wears through the flange in a week.
I’ve managed to borrow a flange square and that’s about it.
I’ve got a boat level so can align the flange bolt holes with a pair of M16 bolts.
