You might notice a difference between standard and premium fuel but it all depends on the engine and whether it can make use of the higher octane, generally highly tuned engines perform much better on the good stuff where as a more bog standard engine may not benefit at all, I used to have a caddy with a tuned up Golf GTI engine that ran noticeably smoother and had more acceleration when given Super-unleaded.Ive never noticed much difference with a petrol cars though (maybe i might if i ever used premium fuel?).
Yes, my bike engines (all carbed, no modern FI there) are similar. They're all designed to run uncomplainingly on standard fuel and do it for endless miles, but they really wake up a bit when I put something decent in them. Problem is, round about here decent fuel is getting scarce. It's not that the ordinary grade available is bad, just that it's not all that good. You might notice a difference between standard and premium fuel but it all depends on the engine and whether it can make use of the higher octane, generally highly tuned engines perform much better on the good stuff where as a more bog standard engine may not benefit at all, I used to have a caddy with a tuned up Golf GTI engine that ran noticeably smoother and had more acceleration when given Super-unleaded.
I wonder why the petrol companies don't add dihydrogen monoxide to diesel if it makes so much difference
Wouldn't it be cheaper to just use water ? it would have the same effectI wonder why the petrol companies don't add dihydrogen monoxide to diesel if it makes so much difference
Could only run my trials bike on super. Knocked something chronic on standard.Yes, my bike engines (all carbed, no modern FI there) are similar. you can tell its doing the DPF regen as it has a nice rasp and rumble to the engine tone for about 100 miles.
My D40 2.5 Navara has never done a regen as far as i know....my saab 9.-5 1.9 does them regularly..Mine has a DPF but I have never noticed anything except when I parked up in the garage one day and I could hear metal pinking as it cooled and the exhaust stunk....presume it had just done a regen.
Does the DPF eventually become clogged beyond useable even if regens have been happening correctly?
I would not mind if they were the price Ford Focus one's are but it appears mine is around the £900 mark, if it came to that I would get one of those Terracleans done just to get it in for part ex.
