I was always a petrolhead so hoping some dieselheads may be able to enlighten me.
Hyundai 1.7 that's done 32K miles, always serviced and looked after but there has always been something that baffles me over the last 6 years of ownership.
This is an example:
Went out this morning and on the way there it sounded like a diesel, nothing out of the norm and just it's usual self, the Hyundais although great engines are not quite as refined or soundproofed as Ford etc.
Coming back was entirely different and it was like having a petrol engine, quiet and smoother, it was up to temp on both runs, same roads, same speeds, same fuel, same everything...even tried to depressurise my ears in case that was the cause .
I am fairly sure it was not doing a DPF regen on either run.
I know the same can happen with petrol engines due to humidity and other influencing factors but there was no change today and it was a fairly noticeable difference.
I suspect an answer may not exist but I always like to understand things so if someone can reveal something...great.
Off to put my feet in the pool...it's seriously scorching up t'north
