Sorry for your loss my friend, ive never had a dog but I was quite attached to my neighbors chocolate brown lab, he was such a gentleman of a dog. He would come and chill with me in my house and feel at home. He even had his Favorite spot on the sheepskin rug in the living room
my dog had a good innings 14years . u accept it at that age and get over it. got another and it got ran over 2 years old that I haven't got over . have another now and its 5 years old and nearly died a few weeks ago but has recovered its a rollercoaster of happiness and sadness
I never got the pet thing. We didn't have pets as a child. Then my sister bought our kids a pet rabbit each when they were young, over eight years ago. When the female one died last year I was so upset, much more than expected. You get so attached to them. But, as the poem says, would you have rather have loved them less?
Sorry for your loss. I hope you have lots of happy memories.
We've had dogs (as well as cats and other small animals) since 1981 and it breaks our hearts every time we loose one. Over the years there have been 8 of which we currently have two Staffy crosses.
At one time there were 3 dogs but, due to expecting to have to take in late father in laws dog, we dropped down to just one. In the end father-in law outlived his dog and when the one we still had died (old age) I couldn't face the pain of loosing another. Anyway I have health issues which means I spend a lot of time in bed and dogs have always come onto the bed with me and the lack of the company meant I went to the local dogs home for a new friend. Short story is we have the two adopted dogs and are now considering a Whippet pup as wife always wanted one (we had two adoped Whippet crosses at one time) !
Dogs are better than people. At least he had a great life with you.
I had a Cocker Spaniel as a child. I lost my mother when I was 18 and the dog 6 months later! I swore I would never have another! Then my girlfriend got 2 Jack Russells. I never like yappy little dogs but they are stars. She is now my EX but I see the dogs every week and they stay with me from time to time. They are 10 and 11 I am dreading when they go.
A great idea is fostering dogs. The ex used to and I loved every one of them. It is tough letting them go but good charities find homes for them pretty quickly. Greyhounds are great dogs to foster - fantastic natures!
