re the cut 40 problem help needed, [ please read fully ] power light on fan on rear works, air comes through gun at right pressure,audible click heard when trigger is pressed as should be, however no arc, take swirl ring out of gun and nozzle will arc when switch pressed, replace swirl ring in gun press trigger and no arc, inside machine is two contacts that look like points with a gap,no spark between these contacts with or without the swirl ring in, the gap has been altered to various positions and never any spark, the machine and the gun components have all been assembled properly plug wired correctly, this machine was running fine and cut various thickness of metal but just stopped working, there is deffo no sign of any melted or charred components or boards inside the machine,i have checked all these points several times, please help getting very close to the point of binning it, open to all and any suggestions. regards gary.

I know it's been a couple of weeks since the kind people on here were helping you - I missed all of this cos I was raising my tan from blue to pink on holiday till a few days back.
I had a similar issue with my cut-50 which, through some good fortune, I managed to fix. So if you're up for it, I'm happy to delve in and see whether we can find the problem.
Your diagnosis from 29th July is helpful, and also sounds similar to what I was experiencing. Basically, the high voltage board was fried which meant that some current was getting to the torch but not enough. I suspect that your symptoms are similar and that removing the swirl ring allowed a pretty crap spark to start.
I've seen loads of pictures of cut-50 innards but not a cut-40. Any chance we could start with a variety of pics of the various boards? I'd like to identify which one is the HV board and then get as good-quality / high-definition pictures of every single one of the components on that board.

Spark gap works around 0.8mm, I found a chart on the wibily wobbly world but cant remember where ive save it at present.
I know you will have ditched all the consumables and replaced with new, contamination inside the chamber causes the arc to short out.
If the machine produces an arc without the swirl it sounds like the machine itself is in a working condition, no pcb issues etc.
The arc gap is most likely where your fault is located or something to do with output from that board.
i can create the problem you are having by messing with the arc gap (and messing with the air). I don't think the machine is beyond hope.
